In the past Iranian year 1385 (ended 20.03.2007), the country's steel producer Khouzestan Steel Co. (KSC) increased its semi-finished steel production by 3.4 percent year on year, producing  2.3 million metric tons of billets, slabs and blooms.

KSC, an affiliate of the Iranian Mines and Mineral Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO), is the second largest semi finished producer in Iran, after Mobarakeh Steel. KSC consists of three main production units - a pelletizing plant (holds two units with nominal capacity of 2.5 million metric tons each), a Direct Reduction plant (nominal capacity of 2.45 million metric tons of DRI a year), and a steelmaking plant (with annual production capacity of 2.45 million metric tons of slab, bloom and billet).

Due to the strong demand for KSC products in the Iranian domestic market, during the last Iranian year the company only managed to export 531,000 metric tons of its products. The company's main export markets in the year in question were the Persian Gulf and the Middle East.

In addition, the Iranian government is planning to sell some of KSC's shares on the Tehran Stock Market in the near future, as part of the state's strategy to privatize the largest Iranian companies.
