Japanese steel producer Kobe Steel has announced its plan to spend Yen 92 billion ($881 million) on investment projects in the fiscal year 2008 (ending March 31, 2009).

Most of the investments are directed toward the company's iron and steel segment.

At its Kakogawa Works, Kobe Steel will continue to implement its project aimed at increasing its sintering capacity and also an environment-related investment, namely the installation of denitration equipment at the sintering plant. Meanwhile, the company will also increase the production capacity of steel casting and forgings at the Takasago Works Steel Casting and Forging Plant, which makes crankshafts for large ships.
