JSW’s crude steel output up 54 percent in Q2 FY 2009-10

On October 6, the Indian steelmaker JSW Steel Limited announced that its crude steel output in the second quarter of the current Indian fiscal year, ended on September 30, increased by 54 percent compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year and was up by 12 percent quarter on quarter, rising to 1.54 million metric tons. Thus, the company achieved its highest-ever quarterly crude steel output.

Meanwhile, during the quarter in question, the company's flat rolled product output totaled 923,000 metric tons, increasing by 28 percent year on year and up by six percent over the previous quarter. JSW produced 217,000 metric tons of long products in Q2 FY 2009-10, up by 216 percent compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year and up by 20 percent quarter on quarter.

In the first half of the current Indian fiscal year, JSW's crude steel output amounted to 2.92 million metric tons, increasing by 48 percent year on year.
