JSW Steel starts operations at Tunga iron ore mine in Karnataka

JSW Steel, one of the largest Indian steelmakers, has announced that as of February 11 it started operations at Tunga iron ore mine in the Indian state of Karnataka, which has an annual capacity of 300,000 mt.

According to JSW Steel’s statement, in October 2016 the company announced that it was declared as a preferred bidder for five iron ore mines, having an estimated resource of 111 million mt, in the auctions conducted by government of Karnataka. On February 10 this year, the company obtained all the required clearances and obtained the final commencement letter from the government of Karnataka for the starting of operations in respect of one of these mines.
