Jindal Stainless Ltd (JSL), India’s largest domestic stainless steel producer and the largest supplier of stainless steel to Indian Railways (IR), has entered into a partnership with Research Designs & Standards Organisation (RDSO), the research arm of Indian state-owned railway company Indian Railways, Jindal Stainless has said in a press release. According to the agreement, JSL will work with Indian Railways to modernize rail infrastructure in India, especially in the bridge segment.

India’s 7,500-kilometer coastline requires the use of stainless steel infrastructure. The first stainless steel foot over-bridge will be built at Bhayandar station in Mumbai next year.

According to industry data, over one fourth of India’s rail bridges are over 100 years old and require immediate renewal. More than 1,000 bridges are repaired in every year in India, but there are still a great number of bridges which have to be modernized.
