India’s largest domestic stainless steel producer Jindal Stainless has announced that it has expanded its stainless steel business in the kitchenware segment to meet the demand from eastern India.
According to the company statement, Jindal has planned the installation of an additional 200,000 mt of cold rolled production capacity at its Jajpur facility, to contribute to its business in the kitchenware segment. As the Jajpur plant production is targeted for this sector, downstream processing units are expected to emerge in eastern and northeastern India, with an expected additional consumption of 100,000 mt per year in the next few years.
According to Jindal, among the major application segments of stainless steel in India, the kitchenware industry takes precedence with a share of 40-45 percent. The end-products include tableware, cookware, cutlery, gas stoves, sinks and similar applications. The kitchenware segment has recorded a seven percent national annual growth, with four percent belonging to eastern India alone.
