Jiangxi steel industry posts revenues of over RMB 100 billion

According to the Commission of Industry and Information Technology of China's Jiangxi Province, in the current year up to November 15 the business revenues of the steel industry in the province reached RMB 100.276 billion ($15.077 billion).

In the period in question, Jiangxi Province produced 15.7385 million mt of pig iron and 17.3042 million mt of crude steel, up 28.6 percent and 26.1 percent year on year respectively. The province's steel industry achieved an overall profit of RMB 2.648 billion ($0.398 billion) in the given period, up 65.73 percent year on year.

According to the Jiangxi provincial authorities, while keeping their business revenues on a rising trend, the main steelmakers in the province adopted new technology to reduce energy consumption and emissions, and also eliminated backward capacities. In 2010, the steel industry in Jiangsu Province eliminated 1 million mt of backward or out-of-date steel smelting capacity.
