The government of the Chinese province of Jiangxi has announced its plans for the local iron and steel industry in China's 12th five-year plan period (2011-15).
Accordingly, Jiangxi Province will promote the consolidation and reorganization of local iron and steel enterprises, including the formation of two iron and steel production bases with annual output capacities of 10 million mt in Xinyu and Jiujiang respectively.
In 2011, the pig iron output in Jiangxi Province amounted to 19.171 million mt, up 14.5 percent year on year, while the crude steel and finished steel outputs totaled 20.674 million mt and 22.474 million mt, up by 12.7 percent and 15.3 percent year on year, respectively. Of the total crude steel output, Xinyu Iron and Steel Co. produced 8.7228 million mt and Jiangxi Pinggang Industry Co. produced 9.073 million mt of crude steel, together accounting for 86 percent of the overall provincial output.
By the end of 2015, Jiangxi Province's crude steel output will reach 30 million mt, its pig iron output will reach 25 million mt and finished steel output will total 30 million mt.
