JFE Steel to revamp its mill in Keihin

According to recent market news, Japanese steel producer JFE Steel is planning to build a second blast furnace in Keihin ( Tokyo and Yokohama) area, which is expected to start operating as of early fiscal 2004. The company has three mills; namely East Japan Works, West Japan Works and Chita Works. The second blast furnace will be built at East Japan Works' mill at Keihin area. East Japan Works has two blast furnaces in Chiba area and one in Keihin area, currently. Monthly production of the mills is 360'000 tons and 300'000 tons respectively. With the operation of the second blast furnace in Keihin, the total production of Keihin and Chiba will reach to 8 million tons per annum. Moreover, the mill in Keihin will be modernized with the installation of continuous casting or plate and hot rolled mill. The project will cost Yen 25 billion.
