Japan’s auto output declines by 6.2 percent in May

Japanese automobile production in May this year totaled 732,714 units, decreasing 48,631 units or 6.2 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, indicating a year-on-year fall for the ninth consecutive month, according to the data provided by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA).

Domestic sales in May this year in Japan stood at 367,648 vehicles, falling 6.9 percent as compared with the same month of the previous year. In the meantime, the country's automobile exports in May amounted to 359,752 units, down by 28,024 units or 7.2 percent compared to May 2012 and decreasing on year-on-year basis for the 10th consecutive month. The revenue generated by automotive sector exports in May amounted to $11.3 billion, including $7.9 billion for vehicles and $3.4 billion for parts. This is a decrease of $1.5 billion or 11.7 percent as compared with $12.8 billion recorded for the same month of the previous year.
