Japanese contractors’ construction orders rise 25.5 percent in May

On June 30, the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that the total order volume received by Japan's 50 largest construction contractors in May this year increased by 25.5 percent year on year, to JPY 623.2 billion ($7.7 billion). The value of orders in April had increased by 31.4 percent year on year, to JPY 554.4 billion ($6.9 billion).

Of the total figure for May, domestic construction orders rose by 21.6 percent to JPY 552.0 billion ($6.8 billion), while overseas construction orders soared by 67.3 percent to JPY 71.2 billion ($ 0.9 billion), both on year-on-year basis.
