Japan to consider retaliation at no response from the US

Japanese officials are upset that nothing happened from the US side regarding anti-dumping duties on HRC imports from Japan. A deadline was given for the US authorities in order to declare their intention for the necessary adjustments to be done on these duties that were implemented back in 1999, and were ruled by the World Trade Organisation (WTO) as arbitrary. Furthermore back in February 2002, the ITC findings of injury by the Japanese steel product imports were determined to violate the WTO rules. Despite the deadline has already expired, with the US having failed to bring its legislation in line with the WTO requirements, Japan now brings forth the threat of imposing retaliatory measures against US imports. However, latest reports state that Tokyo will wait until the end of next US Congress session before imposing any retaliation to see whether the Congress is willing to carry out the necessary corrections.
