Japan sees rise in steel exports

Japanese Iron and Steel Federation disclosed that the country's steel exports rose 3.7 percent year on year to 3.04 million metric tons in June. This indicated the first rise in the past seven months as strong demand from the US and smaller Asian trading partners offset the slowing exports to China and South Korea. Japan's steel exports to the US rose 22.4 percent year on year to 131'000 metric tons, while those to Thailand increased 29.4 percent to 422'000 metric tons. However, to the China and South Korea, exports continued to fall. Exports to China fell 6.8 percent to 572'000 metric tons and those to South Korea declined 3.1 percent to 751'000 metric tons.
