According to the statistics released by the Italian steel producers' association Federacciai, in the first two months of the current year Italy's steel imports from non-EU countries reached 1.687 million metric tons, increasing by 53.1 percent year on year, while its steel exports to non-EU destinations totaled 723,000 metric tons, down 4.5 percent on year-on-year basis.
In the first two months of the current year, Italy's semi-finished steel product imports from the same countries reached 573,000 metric tons, up 41.8 percent year on year. Meanwhile, the country's semi-finished steel products exports to non-EU destinations amounted to 29,000 metric tons, decreasing by 54 percent year on year.
In the January-February period of this year, Italy's imports of long steel products from non-EU countries increased by 48.2 percent to 123,000 metric tons, while its long steel product exports to non-EU countries totaled 176,000 metric tons, down 11.6 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
On the other hand, in the given period, Italy's flat steel product imports from outside the EU reached 924,000 metric tons, up 68.6 percent as compared to January-February 2010, while its flat steel product exports to non-EU destinations amounted to 259,000 metric tons, with a year-on-year decrease of 13.7 percent.
