Italian longs production up three percent in 2007

According to the data issued by Federacciai (association of Italian steel industry enterprises), Italy's steel output in 2007 totaled 31.5 million mt, registering a drop of 0.4 percent compared to the previous year. In the month of December 2007 alone, Italian steel production amounted to 2.36 million, down 4.9 percent compared to December 2006.
 
In 2007, Italy's respective outputs of long and flat steel products appeared to be travelling at different speeds. During the year in question, Italy produced 17.32 million mt of long products, up three percent on the 2006 figure. Meanwhile, in December 2007 Italy's longs production fell 11.3 percent compared to the same month a year earlier.

As regards flat products, in 2007 Italy registered a total output of 14.67 million mt, down 0.5 percent. Flats output in December 2007 came to 1.2 million mt, down six percent year on year.
