Italian long steel output down 5.7 percent in May

The Italian steel producers' association Federacciai has announced Italy's long steel and flat steel production results for the month of May this year.

Accordingly, in May Italy's long steel output decreased for the seventh month in a row on year-on-year basis, declining by 5.7 percent to 1.151 million mt. On the other hand, in the month of May Italian flat steel production indicated its first year-on-year drop to date in 2012, sliding down by one percent to 1.3 million mt.

As regards the first five months of the current year, Italian long steel output decreased by 5.2 percent to 5.385 million mt, while the country's flat steel production increased by three percent to 6.797 million mt, both year on year.
