Iron ore exports via Port Hedland up 20 percent in August

 In August of the current year, iron ore shipments from Australia's Port Hedland rose by 2.9 percent compared to July and were up 20 percent year on year, totaling 27.4 million metric tons.

According to the information released by the Port Authority, in August iron ore shipments made from Port Hedland to China amounted to 22.26 million metric tons, increasing by 2.1 percent compared to July and up 16.7 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. Japan and South Korea followed China in August this year with 2.3 million mt and 2.06 million mt respectively.

Port Hedland handles production from mines owned by BHP Billiton, Atlas Iron and Fortescue Metals Group in the iron ore-rich Pilbara region of Western Australia.
