According to Iranian Steel Producers Association, in the previous Iranian year ended March 19, 2020, Iran’s steel exports increased by 22.21 percent year on year to 10.36 million mt.

In the given period, Iran managed to increase its semi-finished steel exports by 26 percent year on year to 6.9 million mt, mainly supported by resilient demand from Asian customers, in particular, in Southeastern Asia and China. Meanwhile, Iranian shipments to the MENA region dwindled significantly due to tightened sanctions. The geographical structure of export shipments is expected to continue in the nearest months, taking into account the trading activity for April-May production. In particular, in the previous Iranian year, Iran’s billet exports rose by 24 percent year on year to 4.83 million mt, while its exports of slabs grew by 31 percent year on year to 2.07 million mt, SteelOrbis has learned.

In the given period, Iran’s exports of finished steel products totaled 3.45 million mt, up 16 percent year on year.
