Investments in Ukrainian steel mills’ modernization down 18 percent in 2008

According to the data issued by the Ukrainian association of metal producers Metallurgprom, in 2008 the total investments in technical reequipment of Ukrainian steel mills amounted to UAH 8.588 billion (approx. $1.002 billion) - down 18 percent year on year.

Accordingly, in 2008 the biggest investment programs were implemented by Alchevsk Iron and Steel Works - UAH 2.084 billion (approx. $243 million), ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih - UAH 1.380 billion (approx. $161 million), Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol - UAH 1.04 billion (approx. $117 million), Azovstal - UAH 1 billion (approx. $116.7 million), Dneprovsky Iron and Steel Works named after F. Dzerzhinsky - UAH 852 million (approx. $99.4 million), Zaporizhstal - UAH 688.4 million (approx. $80.3 million), and Yenakievo Iron and Steel Works - UAH 428.7 million (approx. $50 million).
