Linz, Austria-based plantmaker Siemens VAI Metals Technologies announced on June 6 that it has received an order from Indian stainless steel producer Viraj Profiles to supply an argon-oxygen decarburization (AOD) converter for its plant located in Tarapur, Maharashtra, India. The new AOD converter will have a capacity of 245,000 metric tons of liquid steel per year.

The project is scheduled to be completed in mid-2011.

With its new converter, Viraj Profiles will be able to increase the volume and efficiency of stainless steel billet and bloom production at the Tarapur plant. The company plans to feed the new and existing rolling mills with billets from its own production.
