India’s scrap imports down in first four months of 2018

According to preliminary customs data, India imported 1.46 million mt of ferrous scrap in the first 4 months in 2018.

From countries of origin, it imported 0.34 million mt from UAE (23 percent), 0.14 million mt from the US (10 percent), 0.12 million mt from UK (8 percent), 0.09 million mt from South Africa (6 percent), 0.09 million mt from Singapore (6 percent), 0.05 million mt from Canada (3 percent), 0,04 million Kuwait (3 percent), 0.04 million mt Togo (3.percent), and 0.55 million from other sources (38 percent).

According to Indian Ministry of Commerce data, India imported 1.715 million mt in Jan-Apr 2017. This translates to a decrease of 15 percent year-over-year for the four-month period.
