Indian state-owned steelmaker Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) is seeking to import 500 mt of ferrosilicon for its Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) from either international manufacturers or dealers in the Indian market, a company official said on Monday, January 23.

The official said that the import volume will be on a “trial basis” and further contract volumes will depend on terms and conditions received by SAIL in response to its purchase tender.

SAIL is also seeking international supplies of 520 mt of ferroniobium for its various steel mills across India, the official said. The supplies for ferroniobium alloy will have to be ensured by the supplier for over a period of six months and additional supplies for every six-month cycle will be negotiated on completion of the current supply contract, the official said.
