India’s pig iron output up 30.7%

India's pig iron production rose 30.7% year on year to 600'000 tons during April-May 2005 period. In the same period of the last year, the production was 459'000 tons. In addition, the consumption of pig iron amounted to 530'000 tons in the same period, up 23.3% year on year. In April-May 2004, the consumption was 430'000 tons. The upward trend in pig iron production and consumption is attributed to the increased demand of casting industry since February 2005.
