Indian passenger car sales as denoted by dispatches from factories to dealers were recorded at 320,000 units in December 2024, marking a rise of 11 percent year on year, according to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) on Thursday, January 2.
In the calendar year 2024, domestic wholesale personal vehicle sales of the industry stood at 4.3 million units, recording a year-on-year growth of about 4.7 percent.
According to data released by various companies and compiled by SteelOrbis, the largest passenger car maker in terms of market share, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), achieved sales of 130,117 units in December 2024, a rise of 24.2 percent year on year.
However, the second largest car maker, Hyundai Motors India Limited (HMIL), reported sales of 42,208 units, a decline of 1.3 percent year on year.
Tata Motors Limited achieved sales of 44,289 units, a growth of 1.4 percent, while Mahindra & Mahindra sold 41,424 units, up 17.8 percent, year on year.
Toyota Kirloskar Motors Limited sold 24,887 units, a growth of 16.4 percent, and JSW MG Motors Limited sold 7,516 units, up 55 percent, year on year.
