India’s JSW Steel Limited has surrendered its mining lease for the Jajang iron ore block in the eastern state of Odisha owing to “uneconomic operation”, the company said in a regulatory filing on Monday, September 4.

The company said that the surrender is subject to approval by the state government.

The iron ore block was acquired through the auction route in 2020 and the company had communicated with the Odisha government in 2021 seeking to surrender the asset but subsequently withdrew its application to surrender the asset.
