India’s Jindal Stainless Limited (JS) and Oyster Renewable Energy Limited (OREL) have partially commissioned a 315.6 MW hybrid solar wind renewable energy project in the central state of Madhya Pradesh, as part of JSL’s transition to clean energy, a company statement said on Monday, March 30.

The project has been developed by OREL entailing an investment of $211 million which included a $14 million contribution from JSL.

The first phase totaling 216 MW located in Madhya Pradesh has been commissioned while the balance 99.5 MW capacity will be located in Gujarat to be commissioned soon, the company said.

The hybrid project integrates bifacial solar modules with tracker systems alongside advanced 3.15 MW wind turbines in a co-located configuration. This design allows for a more balanced renewable energy generation profile by leveraging both solar and wind resources, improving power availability and enabling more stable energy supply for industrial consumption, the company said.

Once fully operational, the project is expected to help JSL reduce carbon emissions by approximately 650,000 mt per year and highlighted the growing importance of hybrid renewable solutions in delivering reliable clean energy to energy intensive industries, it added.
