INOX Air Products Private Limited has commissioned a high-capacity cryogenic air separation unit (ASU) at Tata Steel Limited’s newly operationalised electric arc furnace (EAF)-based steel mill in Ludhiana in the northern state of Punjab, a company statement said on Thursday, April 30.

The 280 mt per day capacity ASU will provide continuous on-site supply of high purity oxygen, nitrogen and argon gas for production of high-grade steel for Tata Steel Limited’s EAF-based mill, the statement said.

As per the agreement between the two companies, INOX will also be able to supply output from its ASU to industrial consumers across the region, thereby cutting down on delivery timelines and strengthening supply chains of industries, it said.

INOX said that the onsite facility ensuring high-purity gas supplies to the EAF facility will contribute significantly to latter becoming a model steelmaking mill that is cleaner, smarter and more sustainable.
