At the start of August, Turkish mills are testing higher local rebar prices due to the ongoing currency fluctuations and high production costs. However, most local buyers are in wait-and-see mode given the high interest rates for bank loans.
A few Marmara-based mills have raised their rebar prices by another $5/mt on the higher end to $585-600/mt ex-works officially. In addition, Turkish workable domestic dollar-based rebar offers in the Marmara region have risen by $5/mt on the higher end to $580-590/mt ex-works, including Icdas A.S.'s prices, as compared to July 30. A few Marmara-based mills have lately been testing $595-600/mt ex-works for workable rebar prices. However, $595-600/mt ex-works seems a bit difficult to achieve so far. In the Izmir region, one of the mills has kept its rebar price at TRY 32,800/mt ($575/mt) ex-works officially, down by $2/mt over the same period. Another large mill in the same region has also raised its rebar price by TRY 300/mt ($4/mt) to 32,700/mt ($573/mt) ex-works, as compared to July 30. According to sources, the overall workable rebar prices for cash payment from mills in the Marmara and Izmir regions are at around $571-590/mt ex-works, up by $2-5/mt compared to July 30.
One of the main players in the Iskenderun region has kept its rebar price at TRY 32,900/mt ($577/mt) ex-works, unchanged on lira basis while only down by $1/mt on dollar basis compared to July 30, amid the ongoing currency fluctuations. Sources report that several Iskenderun-based rolling mills have set their rebar prices for serious buyers paying in cash at TRY 32,600-32,800/mt ($571-575/mt) ex-warehouse, up by TRY 100/mt and unchanged on US dollar basis in order to offset currency fluctuations over the same period.
Currently, local 12 mm rebar prices in the spot market in Turkey are in the range of TRY 32,600-33,600/mt ($571-589/mt) ex-warehouse, up by TRY 200-400/mt ($1-5/mt) over the same period.
