India's basic metal output down 2.9 percent in January

In January this year, India's industrial production increased by 0.1 percent year on year, according to government data. Industrial production in the April-January 2013-14 period of the current financial year remained unchanged year on year.

Production in India's manufacturing sector decreased by 0.7 percent in January compared to the same month of the previous year, while in the April- January 2013-14 period the Indian manufacturing sector saw a 0.4 percent year-on-year drop in output.
 
The industrial output index in India's basic metal sector in January this year decreased by 2.9 percent compared to January 2013, while the output index for fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment, fell by 9.5 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in the April-January period the output index for basic metals fell by 1.2 percent, while the output index for fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment, declined by 7.3 percent, both compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
 
On the other hand, the output of the industry segment of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers declined by 14 percent year on year in January.
