Indian iron ore imports continue surge through first five months of 2018

According to customs data, Indian iron ore imports have surged in the first five months of 2018 compared to the previous year. In the January through May period of 2018, Indian mills imported 7.04 million mt of iron ore, 345 percent more than the 2.04 million mt imported in the same period the previous year.

Additionally, for the fiscal year 2017 ending March 31, 2017, India imported 5.82 million mt of iron ore while it imported 8.6 million mt for fiscal year 2018 ending March 31, 2018, an increase of 48 percent in the period.
