Indian government shortlists six for participation in privatization of NMDC Steel Limited

The Indian government has officially announced a shortlist of bidders for the privatization of NMDC Steel Limited, a government official said on Monday, February 27.

The official said that the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) has shortlisted JSW Steel Limited, ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel Limited (AMNS), Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL), Essar Steel and Adani Enterprises for participation in the privatization of the 3 million mt greenfield steel mill project under construction in Chhattisgarh state by NMDC Limited, the demerged entity of iron ore miner NMDC Limited.

Though not officially disclosed, sources said that as many as 26 entities had responded to the initial expression of interest (EoI) floated by the government.

The sources said that the ‘blowing’ of the steel smelting shop and the first production of hot rolled coil (HRC) from the project was expected by March 31, 2023.
