Indian automobile retail sales across all categories up 18% in August 2026

Indian automobile retail sales as denoted by new registrations across all categories have been estimated at 2,423,201 units in August 2026, a rise of 17.51 percent year on year, according to data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers' Association (FADA) on Monday, September 7.

The data showed that passenger car retail sales came to 402,398 units in the given period, a growth of 16.41 percent year on year.

Two-wheeler sales were an estimated 1,714,610 units, up 20 percent, while three-wheelers sales totaled 122,281 units, a rise of nine percent, year on year.

Commercial vehicle sales were recorded at 90,769 units in August 2026, a rise of 14.4 percent year on year, the data showed.
