India’s Directorate General for Trade Remedies (DGTR) has commenced a sunset review on imports of hot rolled flat products of stainless steel (grade 304) from China, Malaysia and South Korea to determine whether the antidumping (AD) imposed in 2015 should continue or be scrapped, a senior government official said on Monday, October 7.
The sunset review will determine whether the expiry of the AD duty will lead to continuance of dumping of stainless steel flat products from these three countries and will assess the changed trade and pricing dynamics since the import protection measure was first imposed in 2015, the official said.
He stated that domestic producers Jindal Stainless Hissar Limited and Jindal Stainless Limited have petitioned the DGTR seeking continuation of the AD rate imposed on imports of the product from these three countries.
For the purpose of the review, trade and pricing data during the period from April 2018 to March 2019 will be taken up for detailed scrutiny by the DGTR, the official said quoting from an official notification.
In 2015, India had imposed AD rates on flat rolled product of stainless steel imports from China at $309/mt, from Malaysia at $316/mt and from South Korea at $180/mt.
