India-Oman free trade agreement (FTA) will come into effect from June 1, 2026, India’s minister of commerce and industry Piyush Goyal said in a statement on Wednesday, May 13.

The FTA between the two countries was signed in December 2025.

The agreement is expected to significantly boost bilateral trade by granting duty-free access to nearly 98 percent of India’s exports to Oman, the minister said.

The announcement came after an Omani delegation’s recent visit India to explore avenues for enhancing trade and investment cooperation, the minister said.

In addition, he said that India and Chile are currently negotiating to expand their existing preferential trade agreement into a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), aimed at boosting bilateral trade and deepening economic engagement.
