India launches safeguard investigation for HR sheet and plate imports

India’s Directorate General of Safeguards has announced that it has initiated a safeguard investigation regarding hot rolled (HR) flat steel sheet and plate imports to protect domestic producers against serious injury or threat of serious injury caused by increased imports of the said products into India.
 
The investigation has been launched upon the application filed by domestic producers Steel Authority of India Limited, Essar Steel India Limited, JSW Steel Limited and Jindal Steel and Power Ltd, claiming that their production together accounts for more than 50 percent of the total production of hot rolled flat steel sheet and plate in India.
 
The products under investigation currently fall under the Customs Tariff Statistics Position Numbers 722540413, 72254019, 72254020, 72254030 and 72259900.
