India’s Director General for Safeguards (DGS) has launched a safeguard investigation into non-alloy hot rolled flat steel products from China, South Korea, Japan and Russia.

The investigation was launched following the petitions filed by domestic manufacturers Steel Authority of India (SAIL), Essar Steel India Limited and JSW Steel Limited, alleging that increased imports of the products mentioned are threatening to cause serious injury to domestic producers. The investigation covers the period between the financial years 2013-14 and 2015-16.

The products under safeguard investigation also include hot rolled flat products with width less than 600 mm, API grades, hot rolled flat steel products of spring steel quality, hot rolled flat steel products coated with zinc and hot rolled flat steel products of stainless steel.
