The Indian government has imposed 20 percent safeguard duty on imported hot rolled coil (HRC) products for 200 days effective from September 10, 2015, an official in ministry of steel said on Thursday, September 10.
He said that the Director General Safeguards (DGS) in response to petitions filed by domestic steel mills examined the issues and recommended imposition of the duty, which was followed up by a formal notification from the Department of Revenue.
According to estimates of the DGS, India’s HRC production on 2015-16 fiscal year was at 26.6 million mt, while imports were at 3.38 million mt in the same period.
