The Indian government has announced the imposition of a provisional antidumping duty on certain cold rolled flat products of stainless steel, aimed at guarding the domestic industry from surges in cheap imports from China, Japan, South Korea, the EU, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand and the US.
The Indian government, in its preliminary findings dated March 27, 2009, had come to the conclusion that;
-the subject goods have been exported to India from the subject countries at below normal value;
-the domestic industry has suffered material injury;
- the injury has been caused by the dumped imports from the subject countries.
Therefore, the government has recommended imposition of a provisional antidumping duty on all imports of the subject goods originating in, or exported from, the subject countries.
Accordingly, India's ministry of finance has issued notification of an antidumping on imports of cold rolled flat stainless products, for a period of six months up to and inclusive of October 21, 2009, as recommended by the Directorate General of Antidumping and Allied Duties (DGAD).
The antidumping duty on the steel products in question ranges between US$12.74/mt to US$2,011/mt depending on the steel type.
