Ukrainian steelmaker Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol, a subsidiary of Ukraine's largest vertically-integrated mining and steel group Metinvest, has announced that its rolled products for shipbuilding and continuous cast slabs have been approved by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). This approval allows Ilyich to extend its market outlets and simplify shipment procedure of several types of products.

Certificates from the American Bureau of Shipping give Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol the right to produce for the American steel market normal strength shipbuilding steel grades (A, B, D, E) and higher strength shipbuilding steel grades (AH32, DH32, EH32, AH36, DH36, EH36) within a period of next five years.
