The Ukrainian steel producer Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol (Ilyich) will invest €400-500 million in the construction of a new converter workshop in 2008, the plant's CEO Mr. Vladimir Boiko has announced.

Mr. Boiko went on to add that the closure of the blast furnace and its replacement with the new converter workshop would save Ilyich thousands of cubic metrics of gas.

The construction of the new converter workshop is part of Ilyich's modernization program.
