South Korean steel and auto parts company Hyundai Hysco has recently begun producing and selling its hot rolled (HR) electrolytic galvanized steel sheets, and in this connection, leading South Korean steelmaker POSCO and its steel service centers for cold rolled steel sheets are showing strong interest in Hyundai Hysco's launch of the new products.
According to the steel service centers of POSCO, Hyundai Hysco finished the development of its hot rolled electrolytic galvanized steel sheets in January this year and supplied samples of them to some consumers, but there has been no request from POSCO to do any marketing for the products.
Meanwhile, some corners of the distribution market are worried about the low profitability in dealing with the hot rolled electrolytic galvanized steel sheets of 1.6-2.3 mm thickness that both POSCO and Hyundai Hysco produce at present, because the application range of the products is still quite narrow and, therefore, a lot of steel service centers feel it is too early for them to conduct their marketing activities in earnest for the sales of the products in the market.
At present, they are being applied only for the fire-proof doors of small-sized elevators with a loading capacity of seven to eight persons. However, it is the current trend of the elevator market that large-sized elevators with a loading capacity of 14-15 persons are getting popular, which require thicker hot rolled electrolytic galvanized steel sheets with thickness in a range of 2.6-3 mm for use in their fire-proof doors.
