A local Honduran news source reported that the country's Secretary of State for Industry and Commerce, Benjamín Bogran, announced during a meeting with construction firms that producers have agreed to lower rebar prices by about five percent if the materials are used in the construction of public housing. Bogran also announced a similar initiative to drop cement prices for such projects.

Honduran producers have agreed to discount rebar and cement prices for public housing projects through at least December.

Mr. Bogran also said that the government will seek to further boost the construction industry, as it is an intensive labor sector capable of creating a lot of jobs within the country. Mr. Bogran also said that Provisol, the government entity in charge of the public housing projects in Honduras, is currently building 2,400 homes that will benefit low-income people.
