HarbisonWalker International (HWI), a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based global supplier of refractory products, announced Monday it has selected the Point Industrial Park in South Point, Lawrence County, Ohio as the location for construction of its new monolithic refractories manufacturing facility.

The new $30 million facility will be one of the most technologically advanced refractories plants built in the US and will be operational by early 2018. Groundbreaking for the new facility is expected to occur in early summer 2017.

According to a company press release, the location offers “unique transportation and logistics benefits including well-developed road, river and rail transportation assets that will facilitate global distribution.”

HWI expects initial capacity at the new monolithic plant to be approximately 80,000 mt annually. The plant will feature new state-of-the-art automation and technology to optimize production and maximize material flow efficiency.
