Hansteel produces ABS standard shipbuilding plate for first time

Handan Iron and Steel Group (Hansteel), a subsidiary of giant Chinese steelmaker Hebei Iron and Steel Group, has announced that the crosscut shearing line at its hot strip mill has produced shipbuilding plate in line with American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) standard for the first time. The batch in question produced in line with ABS requirements totals 440 mt.
 
Hansteel has so far received certification for its shipbuilding steel from the China Classification Society (CCS), American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Bureau Veritas (BV), Germanischer Lloyd (GL), Lloyds Register of Shipping (LR) and Korean Register of Shipping (KR). In the first half of this year, Hansteel produced a total of 64,000 mt of qualified shipbuilding plates.
