On August 8, SteelOrbis reported on the intended acquisition of Japan’s Asahi Industries. As of March 25, Asahi Industries is becoming one of Godo Steel’s mini-mill subsidiaries as a result of its acquisition of almost 87 percent of its shares. The combined steel production of the plants is expected to reach 600,000/mt annually. Godo Steel produces rebar while Asahi produces both rebar and structural steel.

The acquisition is part of Godo’s strategic commitment to improving competitiveness, according to a press release. In 2015, Godo acquired Mitsubishi Mela in Niigata and Tokayi in Kyuchu in 2016.
