Global DRI output up 21.2 percent in July

According to the data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in the 12 countries accounting for approximately 85 percent of total world DRI production in 2016 amounted to 6.83 million metric tons in July this year, increasing by 0.5 percent month on month and rising by 21.2 percent year on year.

Meanwhile, world DRI output came to 48.78 million metric tons in the January-July period of this year, increasing by 17.8 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2017.

The worldsteel data show that India was the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed in July this year. India’s DRI output amounted to 2.5 million metric tons in the given month. India was followed by Iran, Saudi Arabia and Mexico in July, with outputs of 2.02 million mt, 475,000 mt and 460,000 mt respectively.
