Global DRI output down 11.8 percent in May

According to the data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in the 14 countries accounting for approximately 87 percent of total world DRI production in 2013 amounted to almost five million metric tons in May this year, decreasing by 11.8 percent year on year and up 4.2 percent month on month.
 
Meanwhile, world DRI output came to 25.59 million metric tons in the first five months of this year, decreasing by three percent compared to the corresponding period of 2014.
 
The worldsteel data show that India was the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed in May this year. India's estimated DRI output was 1.66 million metric tons in the given month. India was followed by Iran, Saudi Arabia and Mexico in May, with estimated outputs of 1.04 million mt, 465,000 mt and 445,000 mt respectively.
