According to the data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in the 14 countries accounting for approximately 87 percent of total world DRI production in 2013 amounted to 4.8 million metric tons in December last year, increasing by 20.1 percent year on year and rising by 4.9 percent month on month.
Meanwhile, world DRI output came to 54.02 million metric tons in 2016, decreasing by 7.9 percent compared to 2015.
The worldsteel data show that Iran was the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed in December last year. Iran’s DRI output was 1.32 million metric tons in the given month. Iran was followed by India, Saudi Arabia and Mexico in December, with estimated outputs of 1.25 million mt, 490,000 mt and 470,000 mt respectively.
