Brazilian integrated steelmaker Gerdau told SteelOrbis it will resume operations at its Mogi das Cruzes steelworks in March 2018, due to the recovery of the country’s automotive industry. Gerdau said it should generate 110 new job positions.

The steel mill has a 375,000 mt/year capacity for specialty steel, Gerdau said in a statement. The company currently operates a transformation plant at the facility.

Gerdau added it has two other specialty steel mills, the Charqueadas mill in the state of Rio Grande do Sul and Pindamonhangaba mill. The three plants have a combined capacity of 1.4 million mt per year and they are expected to meet the growing demands of the country’s automotive industry by 2025.
