Gerdau Corsa, the Mexican subsidiary of integrated steelmaker Gerdau, has been allowed to use an “alternative” emissions probe method for its EAF steelmaking process, following the company’s request with local environmental regulator Semarnat.

Semarnat allowed Gerdau Corsa to use an US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) emissions probe method as an alternative to comply with a Mexican regulation, the NOM-043-SEMARNAT-1993, which establishes the maximum solid particles emission limits from stationary sources.

A notice published at the country’s official gazette, Diario Oficial Federal (DOF), said the steelmaker’s request was approved. As a result, Gerdau Corsa can now use EPA’s “1-sample and velocity traverses for stationary sources” regulation for its EAF.
